Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation Adds New Directors of Development
The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) recently announced it has named Mike Borg, Tom Wondrash and Craig Hancock to fill newly-created positions as Directors of Development within the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) organization.
About the Directors of Development
The Directors of Development are responsible for growing the SCTP program and raising funds in their perspective region. Their primary goal this year is to get a SCTP program started in all 50 States. The Directors of Development will be assisted by a SCTP National Coach Trainer who is responsible for Coach Development and Training. All of the Directors of Development are very experienced and passionate about SCTP and youth shooting. SCTP has the most experienced and knowledgeable team of any youth shooting group in the country.
West Coast - Mike Borg of Colville, Washington brings over 40 years of shooting and coaching experience to the SSSF program. As a former SCTP coach, SCTP State Director, USA Certified Skeet Coach and National Skeet Shooting Association Youth Program Committee Chairman, Borg has mentored and coached a number of kids including two California SCTP athletes to world championship titles and a state team that won back-to-back National SCTP Championships. "I am humbled to be asked to be a part of something I truly enjoy, the SCTP program and I look forward to helping grow this valuable youth development program" reflects Borg.
North Central - Tom Wondrash of Burlington, Wisconsin has been shooting clay targets for 30 years and brings over 7 years of SCTP experience to this new position. Wondrash began his stint with SCTP as a Head Coach for a team of 22 high school shooters. As State Advisor, he soon discovered a knack for team development and is currently working on helping develop three more additional high school teams. Wondrash was key in creating a "conference" in Southeastern Wisconsin for the area high school teams. "I would like to help develop high school teams around the country much like football and basketball teams, the more the better. Words can't express how excited I am to be part of the National Staff" echoes Wondrash. Wondrash currently manages a gun club and owns his own vending business.
East Coast - Craig Hancock of Eatonton, Georgia started shooting in 1964 at the tender age of 10. Through the years Hancock honed his skills as a shooter and went on to shoot competitively. Nowadays his primary focus is on coaching young shooters, including several kids on the USA Shooting team.
Hancock was the original State Advisor for skeet and sporting clays for the state of Georgia. He has also
coached 3 National Championship teams. "We currently have about six or seven states that we don't have any SCTP participation in. What I would like to do is get those states active in SCTP and to grow the existing states involvement in the program." Hancock is also part of the National Coaches Development team and he hopes to help get more coaches trained properly.
South Central - Sean McLelland is a native of McAllen, Texas. Sean earned a shooting sports scholarship to Lindenwood University. He graduated from Lindenwood University with a Bachelor Degree in Marketing. In 2008, Sean had the honor of representing the United States at the Olympic Games in Skeet. Sean coaches several athletes in the shooting sports in Skeet and Sporting Clays and conducts shooting classes around the states of Texas and Colorado. McLelland will be working alongside the other Directors of Development in his new position.
